The Twig straightens the arm at the elbow, stretching it out of a typical spastic position. When the arm is straight, exercise is more effective to strengthen muscles and prevent the shortening of muscles.
The Twig also enhances your proprioceptive sense. Its gentle pressure raises your brain’s awareness of where your arm is in space. This awareness makes it possible to carry objects between your arm and torso.
“Within two weeks of putting the Twig on for the first time, I was able to use my arm better than I had since my stroke. Before, I didn’t ‘know’ where my affected arm laid in the bed. Now with the Twig, I can center my map of my body because of the constant input it provides.” – Alon Kaplan
The more the Twig is worn, the greater this internal sense of positioning becomes and the more enlivened the whole hemiplegic side of the body becomes.

It includes two removable metal splints, covered with hook and loop.
How should I care for my AlonTwig?
Remove arm splints and close brace securing all hook-and-loop straps to the brace. Machine wash on gentle cycle and hang to dry.
What about my paralysis/paresis? Would the Twig work for me?
Anyone who experiences hemiplegia and spasticity of the upper limb can use the Twig.
Over time, the muscle contractions of spasticity, or high tone, cause shortening of the arm muscle groups, biceps and triceps. When the arm is straightened it can be exercised more effectively to strengthen the muscles and prevent the permanent shortening, a condition that is difficult to overcome.
Some therapists use modalities like Botox, surgery, oral medications, electro-stimulation and physical therapy to treat the condition. These modalities are often very expensive, complicated, invasive, and only moderately effective (or even ineffective). The Twig is affordable, easy to use, non-invasive, and effective.
Can I wear it all day along?
Your Twig can be worn 24 hours a day if desired, although it should be removed while bathing.
Even to bed?
Yes.
Can I exercise using my Twig elbow brace?
Yes. the Twig helps you to position your arm to exercise more effectively. It provides some support to improve the strength of affected muscles.
Alon: “The Twig awakens the whole hemiplegic side of the body. I was able to walk and now I can dance, do yoga, hike, and ride horses.”
Do you practice as a physical therapist?
Alon: “No. I developed the Twig elbow brace because I had a massive stroke and wanted to recover the use of my affected arm. After almost four years of therapy, I still could not straighten my arm or use it effectively. I wanted to get my arm muscles to relax out of the typical bent position of spasticity.”
