TOOLS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE

We've Been There

All of our products are designed out of experience, not in a lab. Alon and his family have walked in your shoes, literally! We are deeply familiar with what you need when you're recovering from a stroke.

Better Together

AlonTree equipment is modular in its design. You can combine elements to get just the support you need. Or combine several pieces of equipment to add interest and enhance your workout.

Affordable

Our simple technology approach means you get affordable and effective equipment. We strive to fill the gap in recovery left by the limits of insurance, Medicare payouts, and out-of-pocket expenses for rehabilitation.

Sustainable

We are dedicated to building a company that's good for our community and for our environment. Sustainability is an important factor in our selection of materials and partners. As we scale up, we'll be looking for even more ways to source responsibly.

Once a survivor.   Now a warrior.

“Wearing the AlonTwig helps reduce the spastic reaction in my hand. I estimate a 50% reduction in the spastic reflex.”
Art Jensen - Vista, CA
“Wearing the splint feels great and awesome when it’s on. It makes me feel like I have more control over my arm and it supports my movement. I like it a LOT!!”
Amanda Levesque - Asheville, NC
“When she has worn it for 5-6 hours her skin integrity is good. There is no redness or soreness. She also reports that her arm feels much more relaxed for days.”
Lynda Letourneau, Occupational Therapist R/L
“I love my AlonGlove. It’s the most comfortable splint ever."
Art Jensen - Vista, CA

rehabilitation devices & equipment for brain injuries by a Stroke Warrior

Meet Alon

In Hebrew, Alon means "oak." Indeed, Alon Kaplan is a force of nature.

More than a decade ago, he had a massive stroke, which left him in a vegetative state. With rehabilitation equipment of his own design, he taught himself to walk, talk, and live a full life again. He founded AlonTree to share his designs with the world.

Consider the Possible

Alon and his team create equipment with neuroplasticity in mind. Healthy brain tissue can be taught to do the things once controlled by damaged brain cells.

The brain and the body can heal themselves given the right encouragement, the right exercise, and the right equipment.

Work & Play

Our equipment is designed to be fun and functional. Rehabilitation is hard work, but it doesn't always have to be grueling. Who says work can't be fun?

The artists on our design team know comfort, beauty, and playfulness are key to creating products you'll enjoy using for your stroke recovery.

STORIES FROM A STROKE WARRIOR

Getting Hit By a Stroke vs. Falling Down The Stairs

By Alon Kaplan | 3:50 pm | 0 Comments

Primo Levi said, once, if a nontoxic gas appears in your room, big or, small, the gas is invasive. It seems your suffering is like a gas filtering around your room. Two week ago, I fell down the stairs and fractured my upper ulna. What is the ulna? It’s the minor forearm bone. I felt…

Tell that to the Stroke Warrior…

By Alon Kaplan | 3:45 pm | 0 Comments

Overcoming aphasia is difficult but possible. Alon stepped up on stage this week to tell his story and pitch his startup business at One Million Cups of Coffee. Three years ago, I could talk by only using broken phrases.

My Neuroplasticity

By Alon Kaplan | 6:11 pm | 0 Comments

What is ‘neuroplasticity’? And how can I get some? What is the relationship between my neuroplasticity and stroke? First of all, you need to learn about neurons to make the connection between your neuroplasticity and stroke. A neuron “is an electrically excitable cell that processes and transmits information to other neurons through electrical and chemical…

The Nurse and my Trip to a Hospital Toilet

By Alon Kaplan | 11:30 am | 0 Comments

I woke up and my bladder was telling my brain (in a broadly Scottish accent) that, “My bladder is coming apart! Mayday!” My consciousness was awake. My body and my thoughts calculated my trajectory towards my cane. Because it was hanging on the other end of the room, to get there I would have to…

I have climbed a mountain

By Alon Kaplan | 6:16 pm | 0 Comments

I have climbed a mountain. For someone like me who has survived a stroke, this has meant stepping from “stroke victim”, climbing to “stroke survivor”, and, finally, reaching the summit at “stroke warrior”.  My life post-stroke has been an adventurous journey. I have had to shed my victimhood, say goodbye to my doctors, therapists, and…

Aphasia

By Alon Kaplan | 5:50 pm

Aphasia is the name given to a collection of language disorders caused by damage to the brain.[1][2] A requirement for a diagnosis of aphasia is that, prior to the illness or injury, the person’s language skills were normal (for developmental language disorders, see specific language impairment). The difficulties of people with aphasia can range from occasional trouble finding words…

Soul is like a Hand Playing with Light & Darkness

By Alon Kaplan | 6:57 pm | 0 Comments

Primo said in his book, “suffering is like a gas that you turn on in a small room or, a big room.”  Nope.  I don’t believe that.  I feel that my soul has lightness & darkness, joy & sad.   BUT, my soul has NOT changed a bit. It’s like my hand in front of…

How I came to love my damaged brain: The ancient stroke story and a newly-improved ancient stroke story.

By Alon Kaplan | 12:14 am | 0 Comments

Could things have turned out differently? Perhaps. Normally, the brain surgeons would have had “the Merci Retrieval System an FDA-cleared device for restoring blood flow in the neurovasculature by removing blood clots in patients experiencing ischemic stroke”. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2TNz-TniIA). Or, if after the car accident, I would have gone to the ER and complained about my…

Aphasia – A 1980 arcade game

By Alon Kaplan | 4:42 pm | 0 Comments

I knew about aphasia after reading Oliver Sacks’ book, The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat. But, seriously, having aphasia is like playing a 1980 arcade game. Things became much more fun when I found a website that suggests video games for people with aphasia. Paste the link in your browser and enjoy!…

I feel like a 14 year old wearing high heels

By Alon Kaplan | 4:54 am | 0 Comments

I feel like a 14 year old sashaying over grass in her high heels. I’m trying something different today; wearing sandals without my ankle brace. I’m walking around my home as I do the dishes, climb the stairs, stand up from my office chair, and hop up on my bed. While walking outside, my foot collapsed…

Do What You Can Do.

By Alon Kaplan | 7:06 pm | 0 Comments

You are the Stoke Hero. Do what you can do. Everyone has their own unique expression. Loving baby-steps. You are NOT on the stopwatch approach. You are NOT on the robotic approach. You are NOT on the physician’s plateau You are a child-like being; be playful, be curious, be watchful, be emphatic about yourself &…

Just imagine what the nurses are going through…

By Alon Kaplan | 6:47 pm | 0 Comments

I just went to my afternoon walk. I put on my mask and away I went on two miles of bumpy pavements, uphills & downhills. Ashevillians walking around on the Main Street. Nothing protecting them just bare skin. One of them could have been the silent carrier. I thought to myself, how the hell are…

My paradise, vol 2

By Alon Kaplan | 6:08 pm | 0 Comments

Well, the teenager went off to California to road trip. My hippy friend was a over-grown angst teenager; He wanted to slacked-off. So, I decided that I want to wrestle with the Tennessee field stones, crushed-up gravels and a huge enormous bag of pebbles. In May 2020, I dragged cardboards out of my neighbor’s garden…
