TOOLS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE

We've Been There

All of our products are designed out of experience, not in a lab. Alon and his family have walked in your shoes, literally! We are deeply familiar with what you need when you're recovering from a stroke.

Better Together

AlonTree equipment is modular in its design. You can combine elements to get just the support you need. Or combine several pieces of equipment to add interest and enhance your workout.

Affordable

Our simple technology approach means you get affordable and effective equipment. We strive to fill the gap in recovery left by the limits of insurance, Medicare payouts, and out-of-pocket expenses for rehabilitation.

Sustainable

We are dedicated to building a company that's good for our community and for our environment. Sustainability is an important factor in our selection of materials and partners. As we scale up, we'll be looking for even more ways to source responsibly.

Once a survivor.   Now a warrior.

“Wearing the AlonTwig helps reduce the spastic reaction in my hand. I estimate a 50% reduction in the spastic reflex.”
Art Jensen - Vista, CA
“Wearing the splint feels great and awesome when it’s on. It makes me feel like I have more control over my arm and it supports my movement. I like it a LOT!!”
Amanda Levesque - Asheville, NC
“When she has worn it for 5-6 hours her skin integrity is good. There is no redness or soreness. She also reports that her arm feels much more relaxed for days.”
Lynda Letourneau, Occupational Therapist R/L
“I love my AlonGlove. It’s the most comfortable splint ever."
Art Jensen - Vista, CA

rehabilitation devices & equipment for brain injuries by a Stroke Warrior

Meet Alon

In Hebrew, Alon means "oak." Indeed, Alon Kaplan is a force of nature.

More than a decade ago, he had a massive stroke, which left him in a vegetative state. With rehabilitation equipment of his own design, he taught himself to walk, talk, and live a full life again. He founded AlonTree to share his designs with the world.

Consider the Possible

Alon and his team create equipment with neuroplasticity in mind. Healthy brain tissue can be taught to do the things once controlled by damaged brain cells.

The brain and the body can heal themselves given the right encouragement, the right exercise, and the right equipment.

Work & Play

Our equipment is designed to be fun and functional. Rehabilitation is hard work, but it doesn't always have to be grueling. Who says work can't be fun?

The artists on our design team know comfort, beauty, and playfulness are key to creating products you'll enjoy using for your stroke recovery.

And, it’s Gettin’ Better All the Time!

By Alon Kaplan | 11:38 am | 0 Comments

I thought you will intrigue by my orally sentence structure. Last December, I printed out the alphabet suffix pages. Wherever I sit down for breakfast, I usually take three or six big words. I study them by orally saying them 3 times with my SpeakIt! or, not. It’s changed my ability to connect my thoughts…

Karmic laws

By Alon Kaplan | 4:59 pm | 0 Comments

Karma is the law of cause and effect by which each individual creates his own destiny by his thoughts, words, and deeds. Before my stroke, I had a holier-than-thou attitude regarding my religion, physical strength, and intellectual prowess.  However, as I laid in my hospital bed I realized my blood clot had stripped me of everything,…

I Am a New World Monkey

By Alon Kaplan | 7:04 pm | 0 Comments

My baby fingers grasp my fisher price animals. A New World monkey doesn’t use her thumbs.  Unlike humans and most Old World monkeys, their thumbs are not opposable. A human baby would eat from her fingers. The thumbs show up after she mastered eating with her fingers. New world monkeys Thumb orientation lies in line…

A Lil’ Bit of Scars, Unconscious & Boo-Boo

By Alon Kaplan | 11:24 am | 0 Comments

[ARTHUR chops the BLACK KNIGHT’s left arm off] ARTHUR: Now stand aside, worthy adversary. BLACK KNIGHT: ‘Tis but a scratch. ARTHUR: A scratch? Your arm’s off! BLACK KNIGHT: No, it isn’t. ARTHUR: Well, what’s that then? BLACK KNIGHT: I’ve had worse. I have a lot of scars. My first one, I was two years ago.…

3 Different Ways to Tell if Your Arm is Working

By Alon Kaplan | 6:29 pm | 0 Comments

My superior longitudinal fasciculus in my left brain had this trouble: it couldn’t function because my blood clot exploded right in its face. Imagine this: a grenade going boom in a bunker. My superior longitudinal fasciculus was the superhighway of my working memories, my short term memories, my entire language system, my grammatical system, my…

My Triumphant Trip to Thailand

By Alon Kaplan | 5:24 pm | 0 Comments

Nearly 6 1/2 years ago, I was in a catastrophic massive stroke. Stuck in a medical coma, I didn’t know where I existed. Now, look: I am a Stroke Hero. I even know where my flight tickets, my core is handing my backpack & I’m fluent in non-verbal communications (traveling through Thailand you have to…

/’sɪlk/

By Alon Kaplan | 6:53 pm | 0 Comments

Do you know what the hardest word to say for me is?   Silk.   First, my tongue draws back to the ‘Eeessss’ then, slides across the mouth and double loop-de-loop to say, ‘eeeee’. Then rounds it up around the palate and ‘laaaa’ and drop down to say, ‘ka’. Confusion reigns in my brain and…

What is a “plateau” of your stroke recovery?

By Alon Kaplan | 2:09 pm | 0 Comments

“At six months out from a stroke, you don’t expect to see any further recovery.” “Oftentimes there is rapid recovery during the first three months, but then progress slows down. This eventually leads to a dreaded ‘plateau’ in recovery after about six months.” “Plateau” is an expression frequently used in relation to decisions to discharge…

Baby Steps

By Alon Kaplan | 7:03 pm | 0 Comments

Baby steps are measured in months and years. Mademoiselle Violin decided she was going to pick up the violin and, what-the-heck, play it. What’s transcribed in her YouTube video is magical and shows hard work (conquers all!). I have been doing ecstatic dance for some time now.  Recently, a guy from my ecstatic dance came…

My sweet spot

By Alon Kaplan | 2:52 pm | 0 Comments

My tango teachers, Eric and Cassie, taught me to understand the subtle “sense” of kinesthesia. Kinesthesia is the sense that detects bodily position, weight, or movement of the muscles, tendons, and joints. This is what happens when my brain gets feedback about the way my body is moving and the way my dance partner’s body…

Neuroplasticity

By Alon Kaplan | 5:26 pm | 0 Comments

In 2008, I had a catastrophic massive stroke in the left hemisphere of my brain due to a car accident. I was 40 years old but  I couldn’t talk, write, or access my short-term memory.  I couldn’t use the right side of my body. My damaged brain’s map couldn’t access the muscle groups in my…

Before and after my stroke

By Alon Kaplan | 11:18 pm | 2 Comments

Before I had the stroke, I cleaned, gardened, cooked, and did the laundry. I played with my daughters, nursed them back to health when they were sick, took them to school in the morning, and picked them up from school in the afternoon.  I was the “assistant director” for my daughters; always at my daughters’…
